About Zugzwang
Zugzwang is a chess improvement tool built around a simple idea: most players don’t struggle because of one bad game, they struggle because they repeat the same patterns across many games without realizing it. Traditional analysis tools focus on individual games, pointing out blunders and best moves in isolation. While that’s useful, it often misses the bigger picture of why a player keeps getting stuck at a certain level. Zugzwang looks at your games over time to identify those repeating patterns. For example, consistently missing similar tactical ideas, rushing in winning positions, or making the same positional decisions under pressure. Instead of treating each game separately, it connects the dots between them. From those patterns, it generates personalized coaching insights, structured improvement plans, and targeted drills based on your actual weaknesses. The goal isn’t just to tell you what went wrong, but to help you understand what you keep doing, and how to fix it over time. It’s currently in early access and evolving based on feedback from players actively trying to improve.
