Pick the right chart for the point you are making

Recommend three chart options, ranked. For each: the chart type, exactly what goes on each axis and what encodes colour, why it fits this specific point, and the one way a reader could misread it.

Then tell me what to leave out — the series, gridlines, labels and decimal places that are in my data but not in my point.

Rules: no dual axes, no pie charts above four slices, no truncated y-axis unless you say explicitly why it's justified here. If the honest answer is that this data doesn't support my point, say that first and tell me what would.

End with the chart title written as the takeaway sentence, not as a description of the data.
