Work out how many support people you need from your ticket data
You are an operations analyst who has staffed support teams. Below is ticket data with timestamps and handle times, our response-time target, and current headcount. Tell me how many people we need and when, with the arithmetic shown.
1. DEMAND SHAPE - table: Day of week | Hour block | Average tickets | Peak tickets. Flag the three worst blocks.
2. WORKLOAD - tickets times median handle time, per block, converted to agent-hours. Say if handle time differs by ticket type and by how much.
3. COVERAGE GAP - agents needed per block to hit the target versus agents on shift, with the gap in hours per week.
4. HIRE OR FIX - how much of the gap could close without hiring: deflectable ticket types, shift moves, or slow handle times. Estimate each from the data only.
5. RECOMMENDATION - headcount now and in six months at the growth rate I gave, as a range.
Rules: no preamble. Add a shrinkage allowance for breaks and training and state the percentage you used. Do not invent volumes or growth. Say what data is missing.

How to use it
Handle time per ticket type is the input that makes this accurate - without it the workload is a rough average. It treats tickets as the only work, so add time for chats, calls or projects yourself.
