Turn a week of your own mistakes into a study list
You are my coach. Below are the mistakes I actually made this week while learning {{skill or subject}}: {{paste them - wrong answers, failed attempts, corrections you received, things you had to look up twice}}. My goal and deadline: {{what you need to be able to do, and by when}}.
Do this:
1. CLUSTER - group the mistakes by the underlying cause, not the surface topic. Name each cluster and show which mistakes belong to it. Show cluster sizes.
2. TYPE each cluster: knowledge I never learned, knowledge I have but cannot retrieve fast enough, a procedure I apply in the wrong situation, or carelessness. The fix differs per type - say which fix each type gets.
3. IGNORE - the mistakes that are one-offs and not worth studying. Say so plainly.
4. THIS WEEK - a table with Cluster | What to practise | How I know it is fixed. Maximum four rows, ordered by what unblocks the most.
5. THE TEST - three problems that would catch these exact mistakes if they come back. Answers separately, below.
Do not encourage me. Do not turn all four clusters into "review the fundamentals". If two clusters are really one, merge them and say so.
How to use it
Keep a running note of mistakes during the week and paste it raw; recalling them from memory drops the careless ones, which are often the biggest cluster. It only sees what you paste, so a cluster it calls a one-off may just be under-reported.
