Renewal and expansion conversation plan

Viktor Submitted by Viktor Added 14 days ago
Prepare me for a renewal conversation with {{customer}}. Data: {{usage, seats active vs paid, tickets, NPS, champion status, original goals, contract value and date}}.

1. Health assessment on evidence: are they getting the value they bought? Show the usage facts that support your view, and flag what's missing from the data.
2. Value recap in their original terms — what they wanted, what happened, quantified where possible. Name any goal we did not hit and how to address it directly.
3. Risk read: champion changes, low adoption pockets, competitor presence, budget pressure. Rank the risks.
4. Is expansion honest here, or would it be pushing? Say so plainly. If yes, the specific expansion, the evidence it would deliver value, and the timing relative to renewal.
5. The agenda for the call, with the uncomfortable topic raised by us first.
6. The three questions to ask about their next 12 months, not our contract.
7. What to do if they ask for a discount — what to trade for it rather than just conceding.

Don't bundle a price increase with an unresolved value problem.

How to use it

Raise the unmet goal yourself. Renewals are lost by pretending the last year went perfectly.
