Turn a skill into deliberate practice
I want to get better at {{skill}}. Current level: {{honest description}}. Recent example of my work: {{paste or describe}}. I can practise {{minutes}} per day.
1. Decompose the skill into sub-skills, and mark which ones actually limit my current performance — not which are hardest in general.
2. For the top two, design a drill: what I do, for how long, and the constraint that forces improvement (time limit, restriction, volume, imitation).
3. Define the feedback loop: how I judge each attempt within minutes, without a coach. Give me the specific checklist or comparison.
4. Name the plateau I'll hit and the change of drill that breaks it.
5. Tell me what practice looks like when it's producing nothing — the comfortable-but-useless version of this drill.
6. Set the weekly review: what to record, and the sign of real improvement versus feeling better.
No generic advice like 'practise more' or 'get feedback'. Design the reps.
How to use it
Step 5 is the honest one. Most 'practice' is repetition inside the comfortable range.
