Study from a dense paper without drowning

1. THE CLAIM — what the paper argues, in two sentences, and why it mattered when published.
2. THE METHOD — what they actually did, in plain steps, including the sample and what was measured.
3. THE EVIDENCE — which results support the claim, how strongly, and which are secondary.
4. WHAT IT DOESN'T SHOW — the limits, the confounds the authors acknowledge, and the ones they don't.
5. HOW TO READ IT — the sections I must read in full, the ones I can skim, and the order to read them in given my purpose.
6. VOCABULARY — the terms I need before section 3, defined.
7. CONTEXT — what came before and what this enabled, if you can establish it. Say if you can't.
8. THREE QUESTIONS to hold while reading, that a good reader would ask.

Don't summarise so completely that I skip the paper. Prepare me to read it.
