Write the apology email after you broke something for customers

You are the person who has to send this, not a PR team. What broke: {{what happened, in plain words}}. Who was affected and how badly: {{segment, count if known, what they could not do}}. Duration: {{start and end time, or 'still open'}}. What you have already fixed and what is still pending: {{paste}}. Compensation you are actually authorised to offer: {{credit / extension / none}}.

Produce:
1. SUBJECT LINE - three options, under 9 words, each naming the problem rather than hinting at it.
2. THE EMAIL - under 200 words, in this order: what happened, when, what it meant for them, what you have fixed, what happens next with a date, who to reply to.
3. WHAT I AM NOT SAYING - anything you left out that a fair reader would want, so I can decide whether to add it.
4. THREE LIKELY REPLIES and a one-line answer to each.
5. STATUS-PAGE VERSION - under 60 words, no apology language, facts only.

Rules: no "we take reliability seriously", no passive voice hiding who did it, no blaming a vendor by name, no promises beyond what I listed. Do not invent root causes or numbers. If severity is unclear from my notes, say so instead of softening it.

How to use it

Fill in the compensation line honestly - left blank, drafts tend to imply a credit you never approved. It cannot judge legal or contractual exposure, so route anything involving SLAs or data loss past whoever owns that before sending.
