Build your own glossary for a jargon-heavy team you just joined
You are my onboarding tutor. Below are real excerpts from my new team's messages, docs and meeting notes, plus what I already know. Build the glossary I should keep open in my first month.
1. TERM TABLE - Term | What it means here in one sentence | Why it matters to my job | Confidence (from context / partly guessed). Sort by how often it appears. Cap at 25 terms.
2. SAME WORD, DIFFERENT MEANING - terms that mean something narrower or different inside this company than in the wider industry.
3. INTERNAL NAMES - systems, teams and projects with names that explain nothing, and who likely owns each.
4. ASK A HUMAN - the 5 terms you could not pin down from context, each with the exact question I should ask and who to ask.
5. FIRST-WEEK PRIORITY - the 6 terms to learn before my next meeting.
Rules: no dictionary definitions, no term without evidence from my excerpts, and flag every guess as a guess rather than smoothing it over.
EXCERPTS FROM MY NEW TEAM:
{{paste Slack threads, docs, meeting notes}}
MY ROLE AND WHAT I ALREADY KNOW:
{{role, background, terms you already understand}}
How to use it
Paste 2-3 pages of real internal text - thin input makes it invent plausible meanings. Treat anything marked as a guess as unverified until a teammate confirms it.
