Hiring scorecard before the job post
I'm hiring a {{role}} at {{company stage}}. What I think I need: {{describe}}.
Build the scorecard first:
1. MISSION — what this person is accountable for, in one sentence.
2. OUTCOMES — 4 specific results with a number and a timeframe ("by month 6, X is at Y"). Not responsibilities.
3. COMPETENCIES — the 5 that predict those outcomes here, ranked, with what strong versus weak looks like in behaviour.
4. ANTI-REQUIREMENTS — the impressive-sounding things that don't matter for this role, and why. Be specific about credentials we should ignore.
5. DEAL-BREAKERS — the two things that fail a candidate regardless of talent.
6. SIGNALS — for each competency, the interview question or work sample that actually tests it, and what a great answer contains.
7. Then flag: does this role as written require two different people? Say so if it does.
No "rockstar", no "wears many hats" as a substitute for scope.
How to use it
Step 7 catches the classic startup mistake of writing one job post for two jobs.
