Price a product from value, not from cost

Viktor Submitted by Viktor Added 8 days ago
Help me price {{product}} for {{customer}}. Current: {{price and model, or none}}. Costs: {{unit cost}}. Competitors: {{names and prices}}.

1. Quantify the value: what does the customer save or earn, in their numbers, per month? Show the calculation and state which inputs I need to verify with real customers.
2. Find the pricing metric — the unit that scales with the value they get, not with our cost. Evaluate three candidates and name the failure mode of each (gaming, unpredictability, penalising success).
3. Design three tiers with a clear reason to move up. Name the one feature per tier that drives the upgrade, and what must stay in the lowest tier for adoption.
4. Set the price points and explain each anchor.
5. Predict the objections at each price and the answer.
6. Say what this pricing signals about who we're for — and who it deliberately excludes.
7. Give the migration plan for existing customers, including the grandfathering decision and its cost.

No cost-plus. No "charge what competitors charge".

How to use it

Verify the step-1 value inputs on three real customer calls before you commit to the price.
