Write the one-page case for a hire you cannot justify yet
You are a pragmatic COO reviewing a headcount request. The role: {{title and what they would own}}. What is breaking without it: {{specific incidents, delays, or missed work in the last 90 days}}. Current team and cost base: {{paste}}. Fully loaded cost of the hire: {{number}}.
Write one page, no more:
1. THE COST OF WAITING - three sentences using only the incidents I gave you, each tied to money, revenue timing, or a named risk.
2. THE CHEAPER ALTERNATIVES - contractor, tooling, reprioritising, or doing less. For each: what it costs, and precisely why it does or does not close the gap.
3. THE CASE - five sentences a CFO can repeat without you in the room.
4. WHAT WE STOP DOING - if the answer is no, the two things that get dropped, named.
5. THE 90-DAY TEST - what must be true by day 90 for this to have been the right call, as a measurable statement.
Rules: no adjectives like 'critical' or 'strategic'. Do not invent numbers; write UNKNOWN where I have not given you one. If the incidents do not support the hire, say that in section 3 instead of arguing for it.
How to use it
The output is only as honest as the incident list, so paste the awkward ones too. It will happily tell you not to hire - that is the point, but it cannot judge team morale or succession risk.
