Prepare for a one-on-one where you have to raise something uncomfortable
You are helping me prepare for a 1:1 where I have to raise something I have been avoiding. Below is what happened, what I want to change, and who this person is to me.
1. THE ONE SENTENCE - what I am actually asking for, no hedging. If my notes contain two asks, split them and say which to raise now.
2. EVIDENCE - table: What happened | When | Effect on the work | Observation or interpretation. Cut anything I cannot point to.
3. OPENING LINES - three verbatim ways to start, softest to most direct, one line each on when to use it.
4. LIKELY RESPONSES - the three replies to expect, including the one that would knock me off course, and my next sentence for each.
5. WHAT I WILL AGREE TO - the concrete change and check-in date I would accept, and the version I would refuse.
6. AFTER - two lines to send the same day confirming what we agreed.
Rules: no therapy language, no "I feel" scripts unless I used that register. Invent no context. Tell me plainly if my evidence is too thin to raise this yet.
WHAT HAPPENED AND WHAT I WANT: {{paste your notes, unfiltered}}
WHO THEY ARE TO ME: {{manager, report, peer - and how it usually goes}}
How to use it
Write your notes messy and honest, including the part you would not say out loud - the evidence-versus-interpretation split is the whole value and it needs the raw version. It only knows your side, so treat the predicted responses as rehearsal, not forecast.
