Cover for your manager for a week without dropping their work or yours
You are a calm chief of staff. My manager is away for a week and I am covering. Below is what they handed me and my own workload. Turn it into a plan I can run from Monday.
1. WHAT I OWN THIS WEEK - table: Item | Decide / Relay / Hold | Deadline | Who is waiting on it.
2. MY AUTHORITY - list what I can approve alone, what needs their sign-off, and every item where the handover is silent. For each silent one, write the question to send them before they leave.
3. MY OWN WORK - what slips, what gets handed to someone else, and the one thing that must not move.
4. DAILY SHAPE - a 30-minute block per day for their inbox and meetings, with the rest protected.
5. RETURN NOTE - a template for the Friday summary: decided, pending, needs you.
Rules: no preamble. Do not assume authority the handover does not give me. Keep each section under 120 words.
THEIR HANDOVER: {{paste notes or message}}
MY WORKLOAD THIS WEEK: {{paste task list and calendar}}
How to use it
Run it the day before they leave so the section 2 questions can actually be answered. It only knows what the handover says - it cannot guess unwritten team politics.
